The Hope Homestead site has a long and rich history - it was the homestead of William Hope, one of the first settlers in Hernando County, FL, and may have been the site of the Seminole Indian settlement Chocochatti, settled in the mid 1700's.

We invite you to join us in the archaeological rediscovery of Hope Homestead!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081479082016583895.post-5902129065502832992011-07-05T14:29:00.000-07:002011-07-05T14:30:24.940-07:00Hope Homestead Archaeological Site is Now Listed in the FL Master Site File!
We are pleased to share the good news that the Hope Homestead site is now listed in the Florida Master Site File. The official site number is HE668.

The Master Site File is a central registry of archaeological sites in Florida. It describes the site's location, time period, uses and artifacts. It is used to refer to the archaeological site in reports and publications.

Archaeologists can refer to the Master Site File to learn which Florida sites might compare to a given site they are working on. Listing a site in the Master Site File also helps protect the site by making others aware of the site's historical significance.

So this is a small milestone for the site, it will now be known as Hope Homestead (HE668)!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081479082016583895.post-69460408609348840062010-03-30T04:00:00.000-07:002010-03-30T00:22:31.828-07:00The Hope Family in Florida: Georgia Roots The Hope family of Florida has early roots in Liberty County, Georgia.
